Kailua will give you a feel for the quieter side of Oahu, Hawaii where there are fewer tourists and beautiful, empty beaches with sparkling turquoise waters. There are plenty of shops and restaurants to delight you ranging from the casual to the upscale .
The map at left will give you a general feel for the location of the
Blue Kailua vacation rental homes in relation to some of our favorite shops and restaurants. All are less than a five-minute drive from each of the properties. You will be provided with a more detailed map of the area to use during your stay as well as a welcome-packet that will also give you some of our favorite things to do, see, and eat.
You will enjoy free Internet access, coffee and pastries at Morning Brew (Kailua Shopping Center #9 on the map) as well as at Starbuck's, Teddy's Bigger Burgers, and Maui Tacos located across the street in the Kailua Village Shops complex (map #7).
Nearby, you will find Cold Stone Creamery, Longs Drugs and a small Macy's department store. You will see locals frequenting charming Kalapawai Market (map #4) for coffee, sandwiches and various sundries on their way to Kailua Beach Park or Lanikai Beach (see photo below). Both have been called two of the top ten beaches in the world. Kalapawai Market also has an impressive selection of wine--perhaps something to think about as you head back to our vacation rentals after a long wonderful day at the beach. In town there is the Kalapawai Café which serves wonderful dinners. One of the popular dinner spots in Kailua is Buzz's Steakhouse (map #10), which is known for its refreshing island beverages, pupus (appetizers) as well as great steak and fish entrees. Take time to stroll on moonlit Kailua Beach (across the street from Buzz's) while you are waiting for your table or before you head home. We can't think of a better way to end an evening. The other outstanding choice for dinner is Lucy's Grill 'n' Bar (map #5 and photo above left). Lucy's has catered two of our family weddings to rave reviews. Kids will love Lucy's aquarium. Boots & Kimo's (map #8) is a "da kine" when it comes to breakfast spots, which is extremely popular for their banana macadamia nut pancakes with coconut syrup. Be prepared to wait in line, although we believe this little slice of heaven on a plate will be worth it. If you decide not to wait in line, Big City Diner is just down the block next to a very nice Foodland Supermarket.

Kailua has a number of small, wonderful "Hawaiiana" shops with all sorts of handcrafted island gifts such as Koa wood bowls, picture frames, wind chimes and paintings and artwork from well-known local artists. There are a few such stores in close proximity to each other including Island Treasures (map #6), Kailua Beachwalk, Under A Hula Moon, and Baby Showers Hawaii.
